Bernard Sabiti
Bernard is an expert on Data Governance and Digital Development in Africa. He is one of the pioneers of the Open Data Movement in Africa, having helped introduce the concept in a number of countries by helping to organise Open Data Days in African cities and promoting Open Access to governments’ data across the Continent. He has done research and written extensively on the power and impact of making data and information open by default and the impact of democratisation of data access on sustainable development in Africa. Bernard has worked for several Organisations working in the data and digital space including Development Initiatives, The Digital Impact Alliance and is currently a Project Coordinator at the African Population and Health Research Centre in Nairobi where he leads the Gates Data Systems project on Strengthening Sub-national Data Value Chains in Africa.
