The State of DEI in OSS: A Meta-Review
Authors: Hana Frluckaj, Will Beason, Sherae Daniel, James Howison
Underrepresentation of diverse demographics remains a notorious problem in open source software projects. While significant work has been done to synthesize the literature on women’s participation in OSS, more recent studies on other underrepresented groups such as black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and trans contributors have begun to emerge. We review 109 papers on diversity in OSS and summarize that literature, and connect to other review papers on OSS and topics related to diversity.
