Shane has volunteered at the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) for 25 years, serving as an ApacheCon conference planner; as Vice President, Brand Management, while writing the original trademark policies for the ASF; and as research liaison for the ASF helping to connect academics with practitioners.  Shane is currently Board Chair, and has served as a Director for 10 years.  Outside of the ASF, Shane has built the FOSSFoundation.info metadata repository, and advocates for Open Source Sustainability in all its aspects: social, financial, educational, organizational and more.

Shane was previously a software engineer working at IBM and IBM Research.
